Dr. Shroff's Charity Eye Hospital

There are no words to express our thanks and gratitude to Dr. Shroff's Charity Eye Hospital. One of our patients underwent cataract surgery. He paid Rs. 25/-. It is truly wonderful as this poor patient could never have got his cataract removed.

May God bless them and may more such people come forward to help with medical assistance for the underprivileged.

Manju has had a baby

Manju and her husband are HIV positive. They were very keen to have a second child - a son. We counselled them and dissuaded them from having another child explaining the consequences. However, the desire to go ahead and try for a son was paramount for them.

Their second child is a girl. We just hope that the infant remains in good health.

It is so difficult to change their mindset. The desire to have a son in our society takes precedence over everything even at the cost of health of the parents and of the child.

Developments at Ila Trust

We were very fortunate to get a generous gift from HP of Probooks and Elitebooks. There was a lot of excitement to open the packages and have a look at the products including some hardware.

Our volunteers Vinay and Daniel who are no longer in Delhi, especially came to help along with Shuro to set up the equipment and get it working. They have worked very hard to develop the EMR along with inputs from others. They have been extremely busy over the weekend sorting out the equipment and putting it in order. We very much appreciate their hard work as well as their energy and time devoted to execute the task at hand. They have very meticulously labelled all the equipment.

Whilst they were busy with all the activity we found that our in house computer had a bug. It had to be set right as a result we were without a working computer until yesterday.

Grant from HP

Hewlett-Packard - HP has given a very, very generous grant in terms of hardware for the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). They have taken care of all the logistics for which we are grateful. It was extremely thoughtful of them to have taken care of delivering the consignment at our door step. Our heartfelt THANKS to the entire team of HP for being so considerate and sensitive to our needs.

The equipment has started arriving and we are extremely excited - because very soon we should be able to upload the EMR and see it functioning in the field. A lot of energy and hard work has gone into developing the EMR and now with the hardware at our disposal we will be happy to see its implementation.

The EMR would not have seen the light of day had HP not provided us with such a magnanimous gift.

Medicines donated by Ajanta Pharma

Our thanks to Ajanta Pharma for their interest and support in our work. They have very generously and graciously donated medicines which we have started dispensing to our patients on the daily rounds that we make in the two mobile vans to old Delhi and Okhla area.

Our patients are so grateful and happy to receive the medicines. It is wonderful to see the smile on their faces. We were pleased to receive the gift of Biba Syrup especially meant for children who suffer from malnutrition.

Our special thanks once again for the speedy donation and seamless delivery of the medicines.

HIV Positive Couple

Manju and her husband Jaiprakash are our two patients diagnosed as HIV Positive. We are concerned about their well being more so as Manju is in the family way. Manju is not only HIV positive but is also suffering with cancer. The condition of her health is worrisome. She is due for delivery any day. We just hope that the situation does not worsen considering her precarious medical condition. Keeping our fingers crossed that the delivery takes place smoothly under the given circumstances.

Just wonder what the future holds for the couple and for the unborn child. How will they take care of the child. What is the future of this child who perhaps will have to fend for itself. Just shudder to think ...

Here is a story of a pavement dweller - who works at a food stall. He is given food and earns Rs. 100.00 per month. Is it fair.

What an abject situation. Is it not exploitation. How can he survive. What is the way out. Any suggestions.
During our course of work we come across people who have such sad lives with nothing much to look forward to. Last week we came across such a case.

Here is the story of a woman with eight children whose husband is an alcoholic incapable of working and contributing towards the household expenses. It leaves the woman to take care of her family. She hardly earns enough to feed and clothe the children - to make ends meet is a far cry. One of the ways they supplement their food is by gathering food grains that slip out of the sacks of moving trucks.

Just wonder how she will come out of this trap of poverty. Unable to provide for the basic necessities. Educating the children is not even a distant dream on her horizon.

Wonder what is the way out so many who suffer a similar fate. Our efforts to help seem so insignificant its not even a drop in the ocean. Can only hope and pray that there could be some succor for their miserable plight.

Dear Friends of Ila Trust.

We shall be missing one of our very silent workers Vinay Venu. He will be leaving us shortly. We will miss him for a long time to come. He has been such a selfless worker contributing unhesitatingly, effortlessly and untiringly towards the cause of the Trust. His IT skills will be missed sorely. A big thank you for investing your time and energy in designing the website for Ila Trust.

We are very touched and happy that he will keep in contact with us - despite the distance.

We wish him good luck for his future both in his personal and professional life.

Best wishes always.

Lucky Friday

Oye Lucky, Friday Lucky!

On Friday, 26th February we were at Dr. Shroff's Charity Eye Hospital at Daryaganj and met Mr. Vikram Lal who is on the Board. It was a delight to see the place spotlessly clean as hospitals ought to be. We were very impressed by the commitment and motivation of Anil Arora and Shantanu Dasgupta. They have assured us of free eye checkups as well as cataract surgeries for needy patients.

This is such good news for us as you know medical treatment is so expensive. We want to share this with our well wishers and with a larger audience committed to health care of the needy. As most of us know any help be it free checkups, supply of medicines, nutritional supplements, any other medical assistance and of course donations are what helps us in carrying our work forward to serve the needy.
